Why are roller skates the perfect complement to skiing?
When the ski season ends, many passionate fans of the white madness are left with an emptiness in their hearts (and muscles). The skis have gone to the basement, the snow has melted, and the legs start to forget what it means to make a well-worked turn. But don't worry - the stage is coming inline skates, which are underestimated, but in reality a great way to prepare and maintain skiing fitness all year round.
1. Similar biomechanics of movement
If you choose the right style of riding (e.g. off-road rollerblading or freestyle), the movements are very similar to alpine skiing. The footwork, body balance, hip turns – all of this resembles skiing. There are differences, of course (no edges, different ground resistance), but the general dynamika i zaangażowanie tych samych grup mięśniowych czyni z rolek naturalne przedłużenie sezonu narciarskiego.
2. Strengthening the leg and trunk muscles
While rollerblading, thighs, buttocks, calves and deep muscles responsible for stabilization work intensively. Sound familiar? These are the exact muscles responsible for maintaining ski position and controlling turns. In addition, coordination and balance are improved – something a skier can never have too much of.
3. Improving fitness and endurance
Regular rollerblading is a solid cardio workout. The heart beats faster, the lungs work more efficiently, and this translates into better performance in the mountains – especially on longer routes or in difficult conditions. In the winter season, you will be fresher for longer and less susceptible to injuries resulting from fatigue.
4. Mental and technical training
Rollerblading in an urban environment or on paths requires anticipating movements, reacting quickly and planning the route – similar to skating in a crowded slope. You can practice, for example, short turns, balance, body positioning or the so-called "pumping", which later prove to be useful when skiing.
5. Possibility of training outside the mountains
Not everyone has the Tatras or the Alps around the corner. You can put on your roller skates almost anywhere – in the park, on the boulevard, on the city asphalt. This is a huge advantage for people who don't want to wait until December to practice ski feeling..
6. Safe form building and regeneration
Rollerskating gives possibility of controlled joint loading. Well-chosen, with the right helmet and protectors, they are definitely easier on the knees than, for example, running on asphalt. So they can be treated as regenerative or transitional element – between seasons or after an injury.
In summary
If you love skiing, you don't have to part with it for 9 months. All you need is a pair of roller skates, a bit of enthusiasm and regularity. It's not only a way to stay fit, but a real chance to entering winter with an advantage. Because whoever trains in the summer, flies in the winter. And not only on the slope.
